Fashion and Beauty

A time-tested staple of gift giving for women is the wide range of fashion and beauty products geared toward making a more stylish or attractive woman. However, not every product you can buy in a drug store counts as a fashion and beauty item. Can you imagine the look on your mother's face when you say "Happy birthday, here are some Drug Screening Kits?" or "Merry Christmas! Enjoy your bottle of lice shampoo!" Suffice it to say it wouldn't go over well. This article should help you break the habit of snatching up the nearest gift basket or cream and making a thoughtful selection that will light up the recipient's face.

Step 1: Know Your Intended Recipient

The best approach when buying fashion and beauty products is to tailor your selection to the wants or needs of the woman you're buying for. This seems like a lot of work if you just want a quick gift for your receptionist or the cleaning woman, but you don't need to know a woman's entire background to pick out a nice gift. Sometimes knowing one aspect is enough. For instance, say you need a gift for your new significant other's mother. You haven't met her yet. All you know is that she oversees precious metal funds for a large securities company. How can you translate this into a beauty product? How about a fancy energizing cream infused with flecks of gold?

Step 2: Avoid Potentially Insulting or Embarrassing Products

True, weight-loss pills, facial hair bleach, and anti-aging creams technically fall under the fashion and beauty product umbrella. And true, you may know some women who could use these products. But that doesn't mean you should buy them as gifts. Doing so is tantamount to announcing that you think they're fat, hairy or wrinkly, so your gift isn't likely to be well-received. If your intended recipient is older or suffers from a disability, you can buy them a gift that will help them without insulting them by giving them a gift certificate for home health services like massages rather than handing them a gift basket of Depends and osteoarthritis medication.

Unorthodox Gifts for Unorthodox People

An increasing number of women in this day and age are turning to alternative lifestyles like veganism or minimalism in response to the troubled times. Your vegan sister may be opposed to any items that contain animal by-products (such as most gels), and your minimalist niece may be eschewing all makeup and artificial means of enhancing beauty, but that doesn't mean there aren't any gifts in the fashion and beauty product lineup that will appeal to them. For instance, some stores sell soap or lip balm making kits that are easy to use at home. You could either purchase one for them or give them a product of your own making in a reusable plastic container.

Extravagant Gifts for Your Most Important Females

Whether it be your mother who raised you or your darling wife, if you have the money and you want to lavish your lady with an expensive product, there are places out there who would love to have your business. For example, you could pay for an expensive spa retreat or rent one of the gorgeous Lake Scugog cottages and have a massage therapist visit.
